In an attempt to loosen the choke leash on their athletes, the NCAA has enacted a bylaw enabling collegiate athletes to transfer to any program without sitting out for a season, with one caveat.? Each program can only use one scholarship “transfer” waiver per season.? It’s a brave new world on college football campuses.

K.J. Black Transfers to Pittsburgh

Chances are you know as much about KJ Black as I do about Chad Ocho Cinco’s brain chemistry.? Pittsburgh quarterback Bill Stull has graduated and with the Big East wide open, K.J. Black would be an upgrade at quarterback for a season.? The last highly touted Division I-AA quarterback from a SWAC Conference, or historically black college of any kind was Tarvaris Jackson, who is set to be the Vikings starting quarterback. Newsflash: KJ Black is better.? He’s bigger, faster, more accurate and like Jackson he’s transferred once before.? In his only season since transferring from Western Kentucky, Black threw for 2,010 yards, a 22 to 3 TD/INT ratio with a 71% completion percentage.? Depite rushing for just 180 yards, Black can scramble under duress.

Robert Griffin III Transfers to Nebraska
Griffin didn’t play much as a sophomore as a result of a right knee injury.? Fortunately, Griffin received a medical redshirt for 2009 giving him three additional seasons of eligibility.? However,? what what was seen of Griffin as a true freshman? was awe-inspiring.? Most impressive about Griffin is the fact that?the former track star, who is still only twenty years old, ?is a pass first quarterback.? Nebraska’s Zac Lee was a burden on the offense last season. With a window to a Big 12 title opened as well as darkhorse national championship hopes, inserting Griffin as?center for the Blackshirts makes them favorites to reach what could be the final Big 12 Championship Game in the near future.

Vontaze Burfict Transfers to UCLA
As a true freshman, Burfict, the Pac-10’s Defensive Player of the Year recorded 69 tackles and has Sporting News pegging him as a pre-season All-American.? He’s got the speed to pursue from sideline to sideline and strength to bulldoze offensive lineman on designed blitzes.? Arizona State has?been good to him but last season’s six games were a major factor in Burfict’s decision to transfer to the Bruins who formed one of the most star studded defenses with outside linebacker Akeem Ayers and all-world safety Rahim Moore.

Von Miller Transfers to TCU
Jerry Hughes’ departure creates a vacuum in Gary Patterson’s vaunted defense.? Fresh off a 17 sack season, Miller’s talents are wasted on Texas A&M.? With Von Miller as the point man, the Horned Frogs can make another run at a BCS bowl game–or better.

Matt Barkley Transfers to California
USC’s probational period ends during Barkley’s junior? year, at which point he may be an early declarant for the NFL Draft.? I mean, you wouldn’t want to stay at a university?that lost their accreditation.? Southern Cal has turned Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez and even career backup Matt Cassel into starting quarterbacks in the NFL.? However, he’d probably like to play in a BCS bowl game at some point before then.? Also, Golden Bear head coach Jeff Tedford has the Midas Touch with signal callers under his tutelage including Aaron Rodgers, Billy Volek, A.J. Feeley, Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Kyle Boller.

Russell Wilson Transfers to UNC
UNC has one of the most intimidating defenses in college football and a stable of receivers led by Greg Little.? However, their offense is hampered by T.J. Yates’s turnover tendencies.? Meanwhile, Russell spent last season shattering the mark for most consecutive passes thrown without an interception and in two seasons has already thrown 48 interceptions.

AJ Green Transfers to Miami
Two weeks ago, NCAA investigators, presumably dressed in Under Armour and leather trenchcoats suspected Green of attending an agent’s party in Miami.? AJ Green squashed the rumor by insisting he’d never even been to Miami.? However, after hearing pleasant things about the place in recent months from a trio of NBA pro’s, and noticing the Hurricane’s pre-season ranking, Green decides to don the green and orange.

Christine Michael Transfers to Texas
Since Jamaal Charles’ departure in 2007, the Longhorns have had a tougher time finding a lead back, than O.J.’s had fulfilling his vow to finding Nicole and Ron’s real killer.? Enter Texas A&M tailback and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Christine Michael.? He may have a great first name for your future daughter but he runs like a man.? Since 2007, the Longhorns leading rushers have failed to even approach 1,000 yards.? Christine Michael nealy broke 1,000 as a true freshman in a running by committee system in College Station.

Colin Kaepernick Transfers to Oregon
Kaepernick shot out of the pocket like a bullet in Nevada’s famed Pistol offense for 3 seasons.? His collegiate debut is already the stuff of ESPN Classic legend.? In his first career start, how a quarterback with size of one of James Cameron’s Nav’i combined with the gait, quickness and speed of Dennis Dixon in open space, goes relatively unnoticed is beyond me.? Fortunately, Jeremiah Masoli’s snatch and grab attempt created a vacancy for the Ducks.? A season in Chip Kelly’s spread offense would probably bring Kaepernick much deserved acclaim and bring the Ducks a much needed Pac-10 title.? Frat houses in Eugene should probably upgrade their security also because unlike Masoli, if Kaepernick gets his hand on your laptop, he’ll be gone by the time you flick on the lights.

Jake Locker Transfers to Oregon State
Like many observers, I’m not quite sold on the “West Coast Tim Tebow” as the NFL’s #1 Overall Pick in 2011.? His sub-60 completion percentage combined with him winning as many games in three years as a starter as Tim Tebow did in his worst campaign as a starter, ?make me believe he’s a second round quarterback.? Could he establish himself as an elite COLLEGE quarterback with more talent surrounding him?? To finally end all the speculation, Locker transfers to Corvallis, with the nucleus of a roster led by an All-American junior tailback, Jacquizz Rodgers and his brother (receiver James Rodgers) a game away from winning the Pac-10 title season.

Luke Kuechly Transfers to Iowa
As a true freshman, Kuechly finished second in college football in tackles, however, senior Mark Herzlich’s triumphant return from? cancer throws a monkey wrench into Kuechly’s sophomore campaign as he’ll have to move over from middle linebacker.? At Iowa, his services will be appreciated in their championship pursuit after the graduation of senior linebacker Pat Angerer’s 135 tackles.

Davonte Shannon Transfers to Boise State
If there’s one hole in Boise State’s roster it’s in their basketball program.? If there was another it would be the secondary which lost cornerback Kyle Wilson to the first round of the NFL Draft.? Shannon, one of Terrelle Pryor’s high school teammates has been one of the nation’s top safeties at Buffalo after recording 332 tackles and 6 interceptions in three seasons.? With Turner Gill moving on to Kansas, Shannon has no attachment to Buffalo anymore and would be a strong addition to the Broncos secondary.
