For over a year, the discussion about the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft revolved around who would come second to Andrew Luck. In the past three months, the discussion shifted to who would come third to RGIII. However, as the draft nears RGIII has downhill momentum that may propel him to the Indianapolis Colts at No. 1.
It’s happened before. In the lead up to the 2006 NFL Draft, Reggie Bush was considered the defacto No. 1 overall pick. However, as on the eve of the draft, the Houston Texans began evaluating their options as Mario Williams flew up draft boards. Ultimately, they shocked the world by taking Mario Williams and angered many of their fans.
It’s possible that Indianapolis may begin experiencing the same pre-Draft discussions between Andre 3000 aka…RGIII and Andrew Luck. Merril Hoge is the closest thing ESPN has to an NFL scout besides Mel Kiper and McShay. THe only difference is that McShay and Kiper scout and have watched tape on nearly prospect unlike Merrill. But on these two prospects when Hoge says he’s watched the tape, I take him at his word.
Not only has he been about Vince Young and Tim Tebow’s limitations as passers, but he gets extra points in my book for having played the game. Merril Hoge isn’t the only analyst at ESPN who thinks so.
Whether they like it or not, RG# and Andrew Luck are the Magic and Bird/Stone Cold and The Rock of our generation. Let the debate begin.
